Over the years, we’ve highlighted the Prairie insect pests, their natural enemies and the entomologists that study them. This year, we’re digging into our archives to touch on some of the important pests that plague our crops. Most of the insects will be described in more detail in either in the Field Crop and Forage Pests and their Natural Enemies in Western Canada: Identification and Management or Cutworm Pests of Crops on the Canadian Prairies field guides. The field guides offer information describing lifecycle, damage description, monitoring/scouting strategies, economic thresholds (where available) and control options) for each economic pest.
